Iranian-Afghan film ‘Parting’ directed by Navid Mahmoudi becomes a nominee for the CineVision award of the Munich Film Festival.

Iranian-Afghan film ‘Parting’ directed by Navid Mahmoudi has been nominated for the CineVision award of the Munich Film Festival.

The film is scheduled to be screened two times on Wednesday, June 28 and Friday, June 30, both followed by Q&A sessions with director Navid Mahmoudi.

According to the festival’s official website, “The films in competition for the CineVision Award are the 12 most exciting international newcomers of this year's program with daring themes and uncompromising narrative style, formal innovation, and visionary visuals.”

‘Parting’ chronicles the story of two young Afghans in love, Fereshteh and Nabi. Fereshteh has to follow her parents and leave Afghanistan to find refuge in Iran.

Nabi decides to illegally cross the border, find Fereshteh and take her through Turkey towards Europe and a better life.

In 2017, the film was chosen as Afghanistan's submission in the foreign-language film Oscar category. It screened at the Busan International Film Festival in South Korea in 2016.

This year’s edition of Munich Film Festival is held June 22 to July 1, 2017 in Munich, Germany.
